Cursus InDesign
What is InDesign?
InDesign is an Adobe application just like Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaverand Flash. InDesign is used to place and layout elements such as images and vector artwork you create in Illustrator and Photoshop.
InDesign is a layout application. It is not used for creative illustrations, for instance, it is meant to use for laying out illustrations and other artwork. This means you use it to compose attractive combinations of graphics and text: graphic designing.
You can think of InDesign as the Dreamweaver for press. In Dreamweaver you create layouts in an attractive way too, albeit this is for on-screen presentations such as websites. InDesign is used to create such presentations for printed presentations.
InDesign is used to layout magazines, folders and other multipaged artwork. Since many pages can be combined in one document this gives powerful possibilities for books and magazines. You will learn how to do this during your training.
Short outline
InDesign is addressed as training per hour, not as a course. During this training you will learn all the skills you need to get started. This will help you on the way to work with all the options this powerful application has in store for you.
Since the training can be booked per hour you can tell us what you want to learn so we can focus on that. If you don't have any prior knowledge of InDesign we start from scratch and teach you the must-knows of this application to help you on the way.
Illustrator Course or InDesign Course?
We often get the question 'What should I learn, Illustrator or InDesign?". There is a big confusion about InDesign. Many students believe this to be the ultimate creative application. This is not correct. InDesign is used to layout the creative elements you create in Illustrator and Photoshop. Illustrations for instance can be created in Illustrator. Digital images can be edited in Photoshop. Both can not be done in InDesign. It is simply not meant for such purposes.
If you want to create illustrations or designs for posters, flyers and websites you are better off with the Illustrator course.
If you want to create layouts for magazines you need InDesign training.
Don't underestimate this: since InDesign can not be used to edit images or create logos you will most definitely need Illustrator and Photoshop or you will be tied down to what others present you with. You can not remove elements from a photo, for instance, nor can you restore an image in InDesign.
Still: creating layouts can be a very creative process. Combine this training with your knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop to create the most captivating layouts.

Teachers
During our courses you will have a personal coach who is a professional in the world of design. Experience in the field of print and press makes this coach irreplacable while you study. You can ask your coach all the questions you may have and notice you will most often get the answer. While you attend the course you can send your coach your homework files and extra files in which 'things don't work'.
Duration

Estimated homework time
You will need about 8 hours per lesson. Most students spend even more time because they enjoy the work.
Verwacht denkniveau
Het niveau van de cursus ligt tussen MBO en HBO in. Er wordt van u verwacht dat u thuis zelfstandig kunt werken maar ook goed kunt meekomen in een groep.

Location
The courses are taking place in Amsterdam. Our location is very easily accessed by tram, bus, metro and even train. Of course you can use the car as well. All necessary facilities are available on the premises.
Literature and lesson material
LearningTrain keeps track of the developments of Adobe software. Using our Adobe contacts makes this even easier. The literature we consult is always up to date and the lesson material is often hot from the press.
Applications
We have a trial for you so you can do the homework. But of course you can also download the trial from the Adobe website.
During class we usually use the most recent version of the software and the version before that. This makes sure you are aware of the developments in the software and that you can create the best designs for your projects. The design market is pretty competitive, having the correct software gives you an extra edge.
Operating system
The Adobe applications have ben developed for both Windows and Mac and are available for both operating systems. Working with Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash means it's platform independant. While you are studying here you will usually work on a Windows machine. If you are used to working on a Mac you will hardly notice the difference: you will be inside the Adobe environment and this is platform independant.
Extra help
During the courses you can use your coach's knowledge to help you along. You can send in files and of course, homework. Homework is checked: since we choose to correct homework by hand this results in high quality training.

The location
The courses take place in Amsterdam. Our location is easily accessed by car, tram, bus, metro and even train. There is a railway station around the corner.

Software
Software trials
During the courses we use the latest software version and the one right before it. You can try out the software here during class and download a trial from the Adobe website. A trial is fully functional for a month.
Purchasing hardware and software
As a reseller for both Adobe software and Wacom tablets you can buy these products from us. Of course we are available for advice prior to purchasing the hardware or software.

Wat is Adobe InDesign?
InDesign is een programma van Adobe. Het is een aantal jaren geleden ontwikkeld als tegenhanger van het in de grafische markt overheersende QuarkXpress. Quark werd door vrijwel elke zetter gebruikt, Adobe had geen aandeel in dit marktsegment. De stap om InDesign deel uit te laten maken van de Adobe suites was een gouden vondst: grafici die toch al Photoshop en Illustrator nodig hadden troffen een extraatje in de suite aan: InDesign. Dit kregen ze er als het ware 'gratis' bij. En waarom een (duur) programma kopen als er een variant van in de toch al aangeschafte suite zat? Een variant bovendien die mooi integreerde met Illustrator en Photoshop.
Wat kan ik met Adobe InDesign doen?
Adobe InDesign wordt gebruikt voor zetwerk. Als u naar een blad kijkt ziet u op een pagina verschillende onderdelen. U ziet bijvoorbeeld een achtergrond, wat tekstblokken en foto's. Er worden kopjes in speciale kleuren en/of lettertypen gebruikt en u ziet ook bladnummering. Al deze onderdelen kunnen in InDesign worden toegevoegd en op een mooie manier worden gepresenteerd.
InDesign is niet geschikt voor het maken van creatief artwork. Het ontwerpen van briefpapier, posters, flyers, visitekaartjes en logo's: dat moet allemaal, of beter gezegd: kan beter worden gedaan in Illustrator.
Ook het bewerken van foto's is in InDesign niet mogelijk. U kunt geen beelden vrijstaand maken, u kunt niet delen van een foto restaureren. Kennis van Illustrator en Photsohop is dus onontbeerlijk om zelfstandig zetwerk te kunnen maken.

U hebt een InDesigncursus nodig als u van plan bent om grafisch zetwerk te produceren. U hebt InDesign bijvoorbeeld nodig voor het zetten van brochures en bladen, voor boeken en tijdschriften.

Hoe moeilijk is deze InDesign Cursus?
InDesign is absoluut niet moeilijk. Het is wat lastig om erin te komen maar als u eenmaal weet hoe het moet zult u al snel de slag te pakken krijgen.
De van al onze cursussen stijgt vrij snel al is dat bij de ene cursus sneller dan bij de andere. Adobe Illustrator is de stevigste cursus, gevolgd door Adobe Photoshop Expert en de Dreamweaver cursus Gevorderden.

Wat leer ik tijdens deze InDesign cursus?
U gaat leren hoe u een opmaak maakt, een layout, voor een blad of magazine. Daarvoor gaat u goed leren werken met tekst en zijn opmaak.
Ook zult u grafische beelden importeren (foto's) die in Photoshop zijn bewerkt. Samen met eventueel geimporteerde vectorbestanden die in Illustrator zijn gecreëerd maakt u er een mooie layout van.
Er zijn in InDesign ook interactieve mogelijkheden. U gaat deze ook verkennen zodat u in staat bent om niet alleen een publicatie voor op papier te maken maar daarnaast ook een digitale presentatie voor klanten of voor op een website.

Ik ken Illustrator, wat is het verschil met InDesign?
Er is het beeld ontstaan dat Illustrator erg lijkt op InDesign en dat de ene applicatie net zo goed als de andere kan worden gebruikt. Niets is minder waar.
In Illustator kunt u onbegrensde vrije illustraties maken. Niet in InDesign. In InDesign kunt u bladen en dubbelzijdig drukwerk zetten, niet in Illustrator.
De transformatiemogelijkheden in Illustrator zijn enorm. In InDesign kunt u eenvoudige transformaties uitvoeren.
Als u creatief artwork wilt maken: houd het bij Illustrator. InDesign is alleen nuttig voor het zetten van artwork dat in bijvoorbeeld Photoshop en Illustrator is gemaakt en voor het werken met interactieve elementen is InDesign ook handig. Overigens kunnen deze zaken ook in Illustrator worden gedaan.
