What is Photoshop
Photoshop is an Adobe Systems application just like Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash and Indesign. It was always mainly used to edit digital images in the printing industry. But for years now it is also used to create graphics for the internet and other media.
Photoshop has been around since the nineties of the previous century. In the early days digital images were much simpler and the editing possibilities were far les advanced than they are today. Many things have changed in files and Photoshop, you will learn all about Photoshop in three courses. This page addresses the Photoshop Course, the first one.
Why a Photoshop Course?
In the graphics world Photoshop is the standard application for photo editing. Of course Illustrator and InDesign are also important in the world of graphics but you can not edit images and scans with them, only with Photoshop.
Photoshop allows you to manipulate digital images such as the ones you download from the internet, take with your digital camera or obtain when you make a scan. All these images can be edited in Photoshop. You can cut out elements, adjust colours and make photo collages.

Photoshop Course introduction
During the Photoshop course you will learn how to use this great and very extended application. The first course is not as simple as students seem to think: at the end of it you will already be able to edit and restore images and create photocollages. You will even be able to restore portraits and remove blots and blemishes.
Short outline
The course is pretty extensive, the following is a mere outline of the course. Much more is addressed during class and in the lesson material.
1. Document structure, creating photo collages
During the first lesson of this Photoshop Course you will learn how to cut out objects in a good way. You are going to use different tools to achieve this and we shall teach you what you can do with each tool and how to adjust it.
At the end of this lesson you will know how to create an image from scratch and how to create collages using multiple images.

2. Painting tools and special fills
This lesson of the Photoshop course addresses, among other things, the painting tools. You are going to learn how to use them and how to adjust the tools to fit your need. Each tool has specific settings and it's good to understand how to use them in a smart way.
We shall also address the special fills that will allow you to not only create backgrounds but also to create and simulate shadows and special objects.

3. The first document settings
While you are working as a Photoshop image editor you will have to know many different things. One of these things is editing colours and saturation. Photoshop has quite a number of tools to do just that and during this lesson of the Photoshop Course you are going to get to know the first ones. You will also get to know the first restauration tools that will allow you to remove spots and blemishes. You are going to make a start with restoration, correction and image manipulation.

4. Document structure and management
This lesson from the Photoshop Course will address structures in the Photoshop documents. As time progresses your documents will become more and more complicated. 5. Using filters
During this lesson from the Photoshop Course the filters will be addressed. They are used to give a document a special look and feel but they can also be used to correct and restore images. A filter gives you so many options that we dedicate an entire lesson to them. You will learn all the tips and tricks to allow you to know what to do when you use filters, and to prepare your documents for a smart way of implementing the filters.

6. Text in Photoshop
When you create layouts in Photoshop you will soon be confronted with the need to insert text. You are going to learn how to use text during this lesson of the Photoshop Course. Photoshop has many options for text and you are going to explore all of them.

7. Restorations

8. Module Test (exam)
During this module your skills will be tested by a professional teacher. You will perform an exercise as the final test. At the end of this lesson we shall evaluate the results. If you succeed for this test and have sent in satisfactory homework during the course you will receive your certificate.
Course intensivity
All our courses offer intensive training. This is because we want our students to find a job after the course. To make this even more realistic we keep track of the changes in the world of design and the software updates. Working with very old software versions is not an option unless a student needs to use it. Keeping track of all the changes is very important to us: it makes it possible to be a player in the dynamic, multi media oriented world of design.
Teachers
During our courses you will have a personal coach who is a professional in the world of design. Experience in the field of print and press makes this coach irreplacable while you study. You can ask your coach all the questions you may have and notice you will most often get the answer. While you attend the course you can send your coach your homework files and extra files in which 'things don't work'.

Location
The courses are taking place in Amsterdam. Our location is very easily accessed by tram, bus, metro and even train. Of course you can use the car as well. All necessary facilities are available on the premises.
Literature and lesson material
LearningTrain keeps track of the developments of Adobe software. Using our Adobe contacts makes this even easier. The literature we consult is always up to date and the lesson material is often hot from the press.
Applications
We have a trial for you so you can do the homework. But of course you can also download the trial from the Adobe website.
During class we usually use the most recent version of the software and the version before that. This makes sure you are aware of the developments in the software and that you can create the best designs for your projects. The design market is pretty competitive, having the correct software gives you an extra edge.
Operating system
The Adobe applications have ben developed for both Windows and Mac and are available for both operating systems. Working with Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash means it's platform independant. While you are studying here you will usually work on a Windows machine. If you are used to working on a Mac you will hardly notice the difference: you will be inside the Adobe environment and this is platform independant.
Extra help
During the courses you can use your coach's knowledge to help you along. You can send in files and of course, homework. Homework is checked: since we choose to correct homework by hand this results in high quality training.
The location
The courses take place in Amsterdam. Our location is easily accessed by car, tram, bus, metro and even train. There is a railway station around the corner.

Software
Software trials
During the courses we use the latest software version and the one right before it. You can try out the software here during class and download a trial from the Adobe website. A trial is fully functional for a month.
Purchasing hardware and software
As a reseller for both Adobe software and Wacom tablets you can buy these products from us. Of course we are available for advice prior to purchasing the hardware or software.

When do I need a Photoshop course?
You need a Photoshop course if you want to edit digital images. This can be because you are a photographer and want to learn how to edit your own pictures. Or because you're in Desktop Publishing and want to know how to adjust the images your clients give to you.
Of course you will need Photoshop too if you only want to adjust simple things such as scaling, rotating or cutting out elements. If you want to crop, adjust perspective or colours.
It could be you are working in a company that wants you to prepare the news letters and the images you use are not quite good enough to use. You will need Photoshop to work on these images. It will save the company time and money if an employee can do these things and they don't have to hire out.

I know Illustrator, what's the difference with Photoshop?
The biggest dife
Als u met Illustrator hebt gewerkt bent u ongetwijfeld weleens op problemen gestuit bij het invoegen van plaatjes. Misschien een van deze problemen:
- Een geplaatst plaatje is beschadigd en u kunt het niet restaureren
- U schaalt een JPG en de foto ziet er niet mooi meer uit
- U kunt de foto's niet samenvoegen, ze blijven los op elkaar staan en overlappen elkaar.
- U wilt tekst mooi om een plaatje heen laten lopen maar de tekst blijft er in een recht kader omheen staan en volgt niet de letters.
Dat komt omdat u dit soort zaken niet in Illustrator kunt aanpassen. U zult er Photoshop voor nodig hebben. Photoshop heeft ook veel opties om bestanden die bijvoorbeeld ongewenste ruis vertonen, beschadigd of zelfs gevlekt zijn te corrigeren. Op die manier kunt u de bestanden zelf goed aanpassen. Illustrator kan dat niet doen: het moet echt in Photoshop.
How difficult is a Photoshop course?
De leercurve van de cursus Photoshop (van al onze cursussen) stijgt vrij snel al is dat bij de ene cursus sneller dan bij de andere. Adobe Illustrator is de stevigste cursus, gevolgd door Adobe Photoshop Expert en Adobe Dreamweaver cursus Basis en de Dreamweaver cursus Vervolg.
Welke Photoshop Cursus kan ik het beste volgen?
Er zijn twee cursussen te volgen: de Photoshop Cursus, de Photoshop Cursus Gevorderden en de Photoshop Cursus Expert. Deze drie cursussen bevatten elk unieke cursuselementen zodat elke cursus precies aan kan sluiten op de wensen van de cursisten. Bovendien is voor elk niveau een cursus.
Veel cursisten volgen hier de meesteropleiding Photoshop. U leert in drie delen hoe u met Photoshop dient te werken en waar u het meeste profijt van hebt.
Wat houdt de Photoshop Cursus in?
Tijdens de basiscursus leert u werken met de meeste hoofdgereedschappen zodat u aan het eind van de cursus delen uit foto's kunt snijden, schalen en op allerlei manieren kunt aanpassen.
U leert onder andere selecties maken, werken met verloopinvullingen, lossnijden van mensen en andere objecten uit een complexe achtergrond, werken met de filters en op creatieve manieren delen uit bestanden verwijderen.
De nadruk ligt tijdens de Photoshop Cursus op het leren kennen van de hoofdgereedschappen en niet op het produceren van drukwerk: Photoshop is een zeer complex programma met teveel mogelijkheden om in één cursus te behandelen. U zult na het volgen van de basiscursus echter goed foto's kunnen bewerken en zelfs al kunnen restaureren.

Wat houdt de Photoshop Cursus Gevorderden in?
De Photoshop Cursus Gevorderden concentreert zich op het werken voor de drukindustrie en daarnaast ook op specifieke mogelijkheden voor het internet. Tijdens deze vervolgcursus leert u onder andere werken met scans en deze rasterobjecten bewerken, het aanleveren in voor de drukker geschikte bestandsformaten en werken met de pen. Aan het eind van de cursus kunt u uw eigen geretoucheerde foto's en bestanden aanleveren bij de drukkerij.
We leren u ook de bestanden zo optimaal mogelijk op te slaan voor internet.
U leert tijdens deze Photoshopcursus werken met de verschillende kleurenmodi en op een aantal manieren opslaan van bestanden, zodat u telkens het meest geschikte bestandsformaat kunt selecteren.
Voor de vervolgcursus is enige kennis van Illustrator gewenst. Cursisten die geen kennis van Illustrator hebben zullen een paar extra thuisopdrachten niet kunnen uitvoeren. Wat leer ik tijdens de Photoshop Cursus Expert?
Natuurlijk is Photoshop een complex programma. Er zullen ook na de vervolgcursus nog voldoende onderwerpen zijn die nog niet aan bod zijn gekomen. Deze onderwerpen worden tijdens de expertcursus behandeld.
Tijdens deze Photoshop Cursus Expert leert u nog veel meer mogelijkheden om met Photoshop te werken. U leert omgaan met speciale correctielagen en hun diep ingrijpende mogelijkheden. De maskers en kanalen worden behandeld en ook wordt aandacht geschonken aan het combineren van alle mogelijkheden tot correctie en restauratie van (zwaar) beschadigde bestanden. U zult eigen bestanden mee kunnen nemen om aan te werken, bijvoorbeeld digitale foto's die 'mislukt' zijn of scans waar u niet tevreden over bent.
Bovendien komen kleurprofielen en documentformats aan de orde en worden de uitwisseling tussen verschillende bestandstypen en de problemen die daarbij aan bod kunnen komen uitgebreid behandeld.
Wat houdt de Photoshop Meesteropleiding in?
Tijdens deze meesteropleiding leert u alles wat er aan Photoshop te leren valt voor het bewerken van digitaal beeldmateriaal. Er is geen voorkennis voor nodig: u start aan het begin. In de loop van de opleiding leert u niet alleen eenvoudige beeldbewerkingen kennen maar gaat u ook werken met kleurprofielen, kanalen en meer geavanceerde instellingen voor drukwerk. Ook werken voor multimedia komt aan bod. Aan het eind van deze meesteropleiding zal Photoshop nog maar weinig geheimen voor u hebben.
